WhatsApp is announcing an oncoming multi-device update for WhatsApp Web and Desktop. A few months ago it was reported that WhatsApp was planning to bring a new version for multi-device which allows linking an additional mobile device to your WhatsApp account. The report added that this version is planned for a future update. This recent beta update gives some reference to bringing bug fixes and improvements to the Web and Desktop users.

You may know that WhatsApp already allows you to access your account on your desktop via app or web browser through a feature known as ‘WhatsApp companion’. This oncoming multi-device update for WhatsApp Web and Desktop brings details on how this is different from the WhatsApp companion feature and how this latest feature works.

WhatsApp announcing multi-device for Web

The Meta-owned Instant messaging platform has officially announced the highly expected multi-device support feature. Just 8 months ago the platform offered an early approach to join the multi-device beta for WhatsApp beta Android and iOS users. As the name suggests this support allows you to use WhatsApp on four linked devices at once.

Your phone does not need to have an active internet connection for this. Earlier this beta feature gave the existing users the ability to opt in and opt out at any time according to their wishes. The recent report by WABetaInfo reveals that this feature has completely changed WhatsApp using experience as it is continuously working to develop the latest bug fixes and bring improvements for multi-device.

The last update of this feature was rolled out in November 2021 with some improvements which included not receiving the chat notifications when the security code changes after the update of the devices list, and improvements to bring better compatibility with portal devices.

However, it was reported that some people were unable to opt-out of beta after this update because multi-device was considered more stable. Still, WhatsApp is aware that there is room for more improvements like the ability to generate links previous, broadcast lists, missing chat with your own phone number and etc.

The reports mention that the company is working to bring these features in coming updates. The report further mentions that WhatsApp is also working to improve the login process to organize messages in a better way. This will make the process faster, especially when there are lots of messages to be downloaded.

The report adds that some of the improvements were already released in November and January and more are on the line. According to the reports the multi-device update is expected to roll out for iOS users by the end of this month and for Android users next month.

These changes and improvements also ensure you the best security experience with end-to-end encryption while using multiple devices. For more stories on upcoming updates of WhatsApp beta for Android, iOS, Web/Desktop and windows keep following us.
