Vodafone Idea Launches Vi Protect AI Feature Against Fraud Calls to make mobile communication safer for everyone. The new AI-based system is developed to stop spam calls, scam messages as well as online attacks.
It is launched at India Mobile Congress 2025 which protects consumers, networks as well as enterprises through artificial intelligence and real-time detection technologies.
Vi Protect Introduced at India Mobile Congress 2025
Vodafone Idea (Vi) launched Vi Protect during the India Mobile Congress 2025 event. It focuses on building a secure and trusted mobile environment.
Vi Protect combines 3 layers of protection for the consumers, networks as well as enterprises, under a single umbrella.
The system includes two major innovations:
- AI-based Voice Spam Detection System
- AI-driven Cyber Defense and Incident Response System
Both features aim to fight spam calls, scam messages, and cyberattacks in real time. Vi’s move places it alongside telecom rivals Reliance Jio as well as Bharti Airtel, who also provide similar in-network protections.
How Vi Protect Detects and Blocks Fraud Calls
The Voice Spam Detection System uses AI models, web crawlers, and user feedback to identify scam callers. When a suspicious number tries to contact a Vi user, the screen shows a clear ‘Suspected Spam’ alert. This allows users to make safe choices before answering unknown calls.
Unlike other third-party caller ID apps, Vi Protect is built directly into Vi’s network, ensuring faster and more accurate spam detection. It also filters fraudulent text messages and offers an International Calling Display, helping users recognise genuine international calls.
The system’s AI-powered Threat Analysis feature checks Vi’s DNS, SMS, and Voice Gateways to track and block emerging threats. It studies patterns of attacks, reducing risks before they harm users.
AI Cyber Defense and Incident Response System
Another important part of Vi Protect is the Cyber Defense and Incident Response System. It uses agentic and generative AI models to detect, analyse, and stop cyber threats within an hour.
Vi claims it is nearly 70% more accurate than older defense systems and reduces false positives effectively.
This system follows a five-step protection process, which includes:
- Anomaly Detection: Finds unusual behavior in the network.
- Contextualisation and Categorisation: Groups and explains detected threats.
- Interface Engine Agent: Uses AI tools to analyse attack data.
- Suggestive Intelligence: Suggests actions for faster response.
- Human Validation: Confirms findings to ensure accuracy.
Vi plans to expand this protection to enterprise clients soon. The new version will include predictive insights by linking global attack data with real-time incidents.
Future Plans and Achievements of Vi Protect
Vodafone Idea’s AI systems have already flagged over 600 million spam and scam calls and messages. This achievement highlights Vi’s growing success in protecting its customers from fraud and data theft.
The company also plans to launch a real-time URL Protection feature soon. This update will scan suspicious links instantly to block phishing websites and malware threats before users click them.
Vi’s Chief Technology Officer, Jagbir Singh, said that Vi Protect represents the company’s commitment to safe communication. He added, “Vi Protect uses AI and proactive steps to build a trusted digital environment.”Vodafone Idea Launches Vi Protect AI Feature Against Fraud Calls to protect users from modern digital threats.
