Samsung is shaking things up in 2025 with its One UI improvements. According to a new report, the firm would most likely skip One UI 7.1, which has usually followed the x.1 pattern with each Galaxy S launch. According to Smartprix, several decompiled Samsung software codes mention One UI 8.0, 6.1, and 6.1.1, but not 7.1. This omission has fueled speculation that Samsung is completely avoiding the 7.1 upgrade.
The beta version of One UI 7.0 is now available, and speculations say that the next One UI 8.0 will have Decal Shader support, aiming to bridge the gap between Samsung’s UI fluency and Apple’s iOS.
Skipping One UI 7.1
Samsung’s aim appears to be on simplification. Samsung has already phased out the x.5 upgrades as the Galaxy Note range has been discontinued. Skipping 7.1 could help to streamline development and increase update consistency.
Interestingly, the lack of 7.1 does not imply fewer features. Samsung might include all planned features in 7.0, ensuring that users do not miss out on any updates. This would also allow Samsung to launch the new Galaxy phones with 7.0 rather than waiting for 7.1.
