The OPPO Find X8 and Find X8 Pro, which were released in India in November, are packed with impressive features, including the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset. These flagship cellphones have apparently obtained a new function known as ‘Powered Off Finding’, which makes it simpler to locate misplaced phones even while they are turned off.
Powered Off Finding
The ‘Powered Off Finding’ feature, which first appeared on Google’s Pixel 8 series, allows customers to follow their devices even when they are turned off or have run out of battery. Wondering how it works? Here is the magic:
- Bluetooth Beacons: The phone has pre-computed encrypted Bluetooth beacons. These beacons are transmitted even when the gadget is turned off.
- Specialized Hardware: The function employs unique hardware that keeps Bluetooth and ultra-wideband chips operational even when the battery is entirely depleted.
- Find My Device Network: These encrypted beacons provide location data over Google’s Find My Device network, allowing users to find their phones securely and effectively.
This invention eliminates earlier constraints, such as the inability to track a phone when the battery died or the device was turned off.
How It Works
The OPPO Find X8 series has implemented this functionality with its most recent software update (versions CPH2659_15.0.0.401 for Find X8 Pro and CPH2651_15.0.0.401 for Find X8). Here’s what you’ll notice.
- Power Menu Update: When users enter the Power Menu, they will receive the statement, “You can locate this phone with ‘Find My Device’ even when powered off.”
- Settings Enhancement: The description in the ‘Find My Device’ menu under settings says that the device can be located via the network even when it is out of battery or switched off.
This makes the OPPO Find X8 series one of the only flagships to include this advanced tracking capabilities, giving its users peace of mind.
