Even before its official release, the OnePlus Open 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the company’s first-generation foldable, is making waves. Following the successful introduction of the initial Open in October 2023, fans have eagerly anticipated the next generation. Recent renders have given us an idea of what to expect in terms of design and features.
Design
The leaked renders, published by Smartprix in cooperation with Yogesh Brar and Chunvn, indicate that the OnePlus Open 2 will undergo a considerable design revamp. Based on a late-stage prototype, the phone may see further alterations, but here’s what we know so far:
Build: The Open 2 is estimated to be 10mm thick, making it thinner than its predecessor, which was 11.7mm. This might make it one of the thinnest foldables on the market.
Durability: The original Open’s water resistance rating was IPX4, therefore an improvement to IPX8 is likely.
Specification
The incoming foldable includes amazing enhancements that guarantee a seamless user experience.
Display: The phone could include an 8-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED inner screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 6.4-inch AMOLED outside display.
Processor & Memory: Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, it might include 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, ensuring peak performance.
Software: It is expected to launch with OxygenOS 15, which is based on Android 15, and will most likely have additional multitasking and AI features.
Cameras: The rear arrangement could consist of three 50MP sensors: primary, ultrawide, and telephoto (3x optical zoom). For selfies, a 32MP and 20MP camera are expected.
Battery & Charging: The Open 2’s 5,900mAh battery may handle 80W cable charging and 50W wireless charging.
Launch & Expectations
The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to launch in China in early 2025, with a global release in Q1 2025. Given that the predecessor is already available in India, it’s logical to assume that this item is going to next.
