The OnePlus 13 has already wowed with its creative features, and now its initial software update is improving it even more. This update includes a key addition: Gemini Nano, Google’s strong large language model (LLM) optimized for devices like the OnePlus 13. Let’s look at the interesting new features included by this version.
Gemini Nano
The OnePlus 13 now has Gemini Nano, Google’s smallest but most powerful LLM, thanks to the OxygenOS 15 update (build number CPH2655_15.0.0.402(EX01). This feature, which requires the Android AICore software, provides a variety of AI-powered functions directly on your device.
After applying the update, Gemini Nano will appear on the Google Play Store as an available update. Once updated, the OnePlus 13 will automatically begin downloading the Gemini Nano model, particularly when you open the Google Messages app and use the Magic Compose function. This new AI technology improves the overall experience through improved on-device processing.
Bring to the Table
Despite being the smallest LLM, the Gemini Nano delivers a punch. It powers a variety of functionalities, like summarization and smart answers, all of which do not require an internet connection. Currently, it is only utilized for the Magic Compose function in Google Messages on compatible smartphones. However, there are plans to expand its application to other AI functions in the near future.
The AICore program installed on the OnePlus 13 takes up 3.8GB of space, which is significantly higher than the 1.3GB required on the Galaxy Z Fold 6, indicating the use of the most recent multimodal version of Gemini Nano.
Key Improvements
In addition to Gemini Nano, the software upgrade provides a number of other improvements:
- Camera improvements: include increased clarity for 4K 60fps videos and photographs.
- Audio Quality: Improved audio output for a more immersive experience.
- Home Screen Widgets: Add 1×2 weather widgets for easy access.
