Do you also feel that the ‘blue tick’ always forces you to respond, even if you are not ready yet? We all know that when you read someone’s message, the sender immediately sees two blue ticks, which lets them know that you have read the message.

But what if you want to read the message and the sender does not know? Yes, there is a setting in WhatsApp through which you can hide this ‘blue tick’ information.

Why Turn Off Whatsapp Read Receipts

You might be wondering what is the need for this? There are many reasons for this. First, it gives you some privacy. You can read and reply to messages at your convenience without any pressure. Second, it comes in handy in situations when you don’t want to reply to a message immediately, but it is important to read it.

Easy Way to Turn Off Whatsapp Read Receipts

Open the WhatsApp app: First, open the WhatsApp app on your smartphone.

Go to Settings:

Android: Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the app > select ‘Settings’.
iPhone: Tap ‘Settings’ in the bottom right corner of the app.

Tap ‘Privacy’: In the Settings menu, tap the ‘Privacy’ option.

Turn off ‘Read Receipts’: In the Privacy settings, you will see a toggle switch for ‘Read Receipts’. It is usually on. Tap on it to turn it off.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

When you turn off “Read Receipts”, you won’t know when your messages have been read (you won’t see blue marks on sent messages either). It’s a level playing field!

This setting doesn’t apply to group chats. Your messages in groups will always show blue marks when they’ve been read. Blue marks always appear for voice messages, even if this setting is turned off.
