Nowadays smartphones are not limited to just making calls and sending messages, but they are equipped with small smart features that make our work easier. iPhone’s Live Text feature is also one of them. Many times we want to copy and use the text written on a book, board, document or poster, but typing it manually takes a lot of time.

What is Live Text feature

Live Text is an advanced feature available in iOS 15 and above. With its help, iPhone can recognize any image, screenshot or text captured in the camera and make it editable. This feature automatically recognizes text, so you can use it to copy, paste, translate and even make calls.

How to turn it on

The Live Text feature in iPhone is turned on by default, but if it is not working for some reason, you can turn it on manually.

  1. Open iPhone Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap on the Camera option.
  3. Here you will find the Live Text option, turn it on.

How to use

1. Copy text from camera
If you want to copy any text written on a document, book, board or screen, then this feature will be very useful for you.

  • Open the iPhone’s camera app.
  • Focus the camera on the text you want to copy.
  • The Live Text icon (scanner-like symbol) will appear above the text, tap on it.
  • Now select the text and click on the copy option.
  • You can paste this copied text in Notes, Messages or any app.

2. Extract text from an image saved in the gallery
If you already have a screenshot or image saved in your phone that has text written in it, then you can use Live Text from there as well.

  • Open the Photos app.
  • Select the image that contains the text.
  • As soon as you open the image, Live Text will automatically recognize the text.
  • Select the text and choose one of the Copy, Translate, Lookup or Share options.

3. Translate text directly
If you receive text in another language and can’t understand it, you can instantly translate it using Live Text.

  • Select text from Live Text.
  • Tap the Translate option.
  • iPhone will instantly convert the text to your preferred language.

4. Open phone numbers and websites directly
Live Text is not limited to just copying text, but it also has the ability to recognize phone numbers and website links.

  • Scan a phone number or website in a photo or camera.
  • If it’s a number, the Call option will appear so you can call directly.
  • If it’s a website, the Open in Safari option will appear so you can open the site in the browser.
