Have you ever wondered why your phone’s storage suddenly gets full? Many times we see alerts like “clean”, “delete” repeatedly, and cannot understand what is happening. Actually, WhatsApp plays a big role in this. Chat, media, photos, videos and forwarded messages – all these together make this app slowly eat up several GB of storage.
Why Is It Important to Check Storage Usage in Whatsapp
Suppose you have bought a new phone and within a few months you start getting a “Storage Full” notification. Why does this happen? Because WhatsApp keeps collecting a lot of photos, videos and forwarded files every day.
If you do not check WhatsApp storage usage from time to time, then slowly your storage starts getting exhausted. Therefore, it is very important to see how much storage is occupied in which chat or group.
How to Check Storage Usage in Whatsapp
Step-by-step guide: Find out which chat is taking up the most space in WhatsApp
- First, open WhatsApp on your phone
- Tap the three dots (⋮) in the top right corner
- Now go to Settings

What the Storage Section Shows You
When you go to “Manage Storage”, you’ll find the following information:
Top chats: Which chats are using the most data
Large files: Files larger than 5MB at a time
Forwarded multiple times: Content that’s been forwarded repeatedly
Cleanup suggestions: Suggestions on which files should be deleted
This allows you to delete only files that aren’t useful, and save the important ones.
