What’s the problem with backing up in Telegram
Unlike WhatsApp, Telegram doesn’t have an in-built backup feature that connects directly to Google Drive. This means that if you delete a chat, it’s gone forever – especially if it’s not saved in the cloud. But don’t worry, there’s a way to manually save your important chats to Google Drive.
How to backup Telegram chats to Google Drive
1. Export Telegram data (Desktop/PC only)
This feature is not available on the Telegram mobile app. You need to download the Telegram desktop app on your Windows or Mac computer.
2. Log in to Telegram desktop
- Download the app from the official website of Telegram
- Scan the QR code and log in
- Now go to Settings and click on “Advanced”
- There you will find the option “Export Telegram data”
3. Choose what you want to backup
- You can choose as per your preference:
- Which chats you want (individual, group or channel)
- In which format (HTML or JSON)
- Media files (photos, videos, documents)
- Date range (past week, month or full data)
- Now press the “Export” button and wait for a few minutes. The file will be saved in your system.
4. Upload the exported file to Google Drive
- Now that you have the complete chat file, you can manually upload it to Google Drive.
- Just open Drive, click “New” and upload the file. You can create a separate folder if you want so everything stays organized.
