Google Pixel 10’s Take a Message Feature Comes Into Play on Older Phones
The Pixel 10 introduced Take a Message for smarter call handling. When users miss or decline calls, the app offers to record a message.
That recording is automatically transcribed into text within the Phone app. Both the recording and the transcription appear in the Recents tab, allowing users to review messages easily without returning calls immediately.
Google confirmed the feature is rolling out to Pixel 4 and newer models. Currently, it is available only in Ireland, Australia, the US, and the UK.
Most carriers support it except Dish. Some Pixel 9 users already received the feature, and Google will expand the rollout to more devices in the coming days.
The feature also works with Pixel Watch 2 and newer models, but they must pair with Pixel 6 or later phones. To enable the option, update to the latest version of the Phone app.
Then go to More > Settings > Take a Message and switch the toggle on. All recordings remain private on-device, and spam calls are filtered automatically.
Pixel 10 Writing Tools Rolling Out to Older Models
Pixel 10 also introduced advanced writing tools integrated into Gboard. This AI-powered feature improves text by fixing grammar errors, proofreading, rephrasing, and changing tone.
Users can make their messages sound professional, casual, or friendly. It also shortens or expands messages depending on preference. These updates reduce reliance on third-party apps while offering reliable text assistance.
The writing tools rollout has already started for some users. Several reports on Discord confirm availability on older Pixel phones. However, Google has not provided a full list of supported devices yet.
The timeline for a global rollout also remains unclear. Still, this shows Google’s continued support for older devices, ensuring users benefit from new AI features without upgrading hardware.
