There are two ways to delete an account in Telegram:
- Automatically delete via inactivity
- Manual delete via the web
Auto Delete Through Inactivity
Telegram has a setting that automatically deletes your account after a certain number of months of inactivity.
How to set it up
- Open the Telegram app
- Go to Settings > Privacy and Security
- Click the ‘If you are absent’ option
- Select a time period from 1 month to 1 year
- If you are not active for the specified time, Telegram will automatically delete your account
This option is great when you want to stop using the app but don’t want to delete the account right away.
Manual Deletion Via Web (Direct Account Deletion)
If you want to leave Telegram immediately, use the manual method.
Step-by-step process
- Open this link in the browser of your phone or computer: https://my.telegram.org/auth
- Enter your mobile number (the one with which the account is created on Telegram)
- Telegram will send a confirmation code – enter it on the site
- After logging in, click on ‘Delete account’
- Then enter your reason in ‘Why are you leaving?’ (or leave it blank)
- Now click on ‘Delete my account
- After confirmation, your account will be deleted forever
